Picture this: you’re scrolling through social media, and you see your friend from high school. They’ve just landed their dream job, and they’re posting about it non-stop. Suddenly, you start to feel a twinge of self-doubt. Maybe you’re not as successful as you should be. Maybe you’re not working hard enough. Stop right there! This comparison trap is a sneaky devil that can lead you straight into the arms of imposter syndrome.

The Problem

Here’s the thing: Comparing yourself to others is a losing game. It’s like playing a rigged slot machine that only pays out when someone else wins. No matter how much you try, you’ll never come out ahead.

People compare for 2 reasons. One is to feel superior, and the other is to feel inferior.

Both reasons are wrong. Comparing yourself to others solely to feel good about yourself is a form of ego-boosting that doesn’t contribute to genuine self-esteem. It’s like taking a shortcut instead of doing the hard work of building confidence based on your own values and accomplishments.

On the other hand, comparing yourself to others to beat yourself down is a form of self-sabotage that only leads to more misery and self-doubt. It’s like shooting yourself…
